The LDJ A-Maize-Ing Heat Furnace is manufactured to operate like any other furnace on the market.  Not only does it heat your home, it can be used with your air conditioning unit as well.  It operates no differently than any furnace, other than the fact that it burns a solid fuel. Manufactured as a variable rate 165,000 BTU model, each system is thermostatically controlled and operates at 85% heating efficiency as tested by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

ImageThe storage hopper for the system holds 14 bushels of fuel.  On average, the hopper will last 5-10 days depending upon the area that is being heated.

The burn system of the LDJ A-Maize-Ing Heat furnace is the same as the boiler.  Fuel is fed into the bottom of a cast iron burn pot.  The fuel continually pushes up, and residual ash is boiled over the side.  The ash then falls into the ash pan below the burn pot.  On average, the ash pan is emptied once a week.

When the thermostat calls for heat, the LDJ furnace will operate in its high fire mode.  During this time, the dual auger system will deliver fuel from the hopper into the bottom of the cast iron burn pot.  The combustion blower will feed air into the burn pot for efficient consumption of the fuel. The room air blower is triggered by the fan switch to evenly distribute the air throughout your home.

When the thermostat is satisfied, the system will shut down and operate in a low fire mode.  During this time, fuel will be fed in short increments to maintain the fire in the burn pot.  The system will operate in this mode until the thermostat calls for heat.

Typically, you will empty your ash pan once a week or once every hopper fill. There is no need to shut the system down.  Once the unit is lit at the beginning of the season, it stays lit until the heating season is complete.
