The LDJ A-Maize-Ing Heat boiler is manufactured as a variable rate 165,000 BTU model.  Each system is made as a stand alone heating appliance or as an addition to your current boiler.  The LDJ boiler operates similar to many other boilers on the market other than the fact that it burns a solid fuel.  The model is tested and listed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and operates at an 85% heating efficiency.

The storage hopper for the system holds 14 bushels of fuel.  On average, the hopper will last 5-10 days, depending upon the area that is being heated.

The LDJ boiler vessel is an 18 gallon ASME certified tank.  A triple aquastat controls the temperature of the water in the tank to maintain 180°F.  When the water temperature drops, the aquastat tells the burn system to operate in high fire mode until 180°F water is achieved.  The boiler then cycles to a low pilot idle flame.

The burn system of the LDJ A-Maize-Ing Heat boiler is the same as the furnace.  Fuel is fed into the bottom of a cast iron burn pot.  The fuel continually pushes up, and residual ash is boiled over the side.  The ash then falls into the ash pan below the burn pot.  On average, the ash pan is emptied once a week.

When the aquastat calls for heat, the LDJ boiler will operate in its high fire mode.  During this time, the dual auger system will deliver fuel from the hopper into the bottom of the cast iron burn pot.  The combustion blower will feed air into the burn pot for efficient consumption of the fuel.

When the aquastat is satisfied, the system will shut down and operate in a low fire mode.  During this time, fuel will be fed in short increments to maintain the fire in the burn pot.  The system will operate in this mode until the aquastat again calls for heat.

Typically, you will empty your ash pan once a week or once every hopper fill. There is no need to shut the system down.  Once the unit is lit at the beginning of the season, it stays lit until the heating season is complete.

Either model can be used to also heat domestic hot water during the heating season.  You can order your LDJ boiler with a domestic water coil, or install a side arm application.
