The LDJ A-Maize-Ing Heat boiler is not a cold start system like some conventional natural gas, propane or fuel oil boilers. The burn system on the boiler is controlled by an aquastat, which controls the firing mechanism to maintain water temperature. Normal operating temperature for the LDJ boiler is 180°F. When the temperature in the boiler drops below 170°F; the boiler cycles into its high fire mode to bring the temperature back to the 180°F setting. The boiler comes from the factory with 1½ inch fittings on the supply and return ports. Your supply ports are the top ports; the return ports are on the bottom. The center ports are considered ASME inspection ports. There are six total ports, three on each side. You will use one supply and one return port and plug the other four. It is recommended that 1½ to 1¼ inch line be used for a primary loop. The primary loop should have a constantly circulating pump that runs at all times to keep the water flowing. From this loop, either one zone or multiple zones can pull water controlled by additional pumps which are triggered by a thermostat. It may be necessary to install a dump zone with the system to release any built up heat from the boiler when the zone or zones are not calling for heat. The dump zone prevents the boiler from overheating and the pop off valve from releasing scalding hot water. To ensure proper operation and functionality, the LDJ A-Maize-Ing Heat boiler must be professionally installed by an HVAC or hydronic contractor. Improper installation can cause inadequate heating and possible boiler failure. If you or your installer would have any questions about installation, please give our technical department a call.
